This diploma serves as a recognized component to the Non-Commissioned Members' training. |

NPSIA's M.A. program emphasizes imparting professional skills as well as knowledge. Our courses are policy as opposed to theoretically oriented and frequently involve the use of case studies and simulations. The majority of our students see the M.A. as their path to the workforce. NPSIA graduates find employment in Canada and abroad in government departments, non-governmental and international organizations, and the private sector. The M.A. program is organized around seven clusters:
The Intelligence and National Security cluster is built around a series of elective courses covering intelligence and security issues more broadly such as ‘Intelligence, Statecraft and International Affairs', Strategic Intelligence in theory and practice', ‘International security', ‘Terrorism', ‘Arms control and disarmament' etc., and all NPSIA students must complete a relevant economics course and the course in policy-methods. Université de Montréal-McGill Joint Research Group in International Security Studies |
Established in 1995, this program combines the academic strengths in international security studies in these two universities. The joint activities include: academic conferences, a post-doctoral fellowship, a graduate student workshop, an occasional paper series, joint graduate student training, field research support for PhD candidates, etc. The program is primarily funded by the Security and Defense Forum (SDF) of the Canadian Department of National Defense and is directed be faculty from the Political Science departments of both universities. |

The York Centre for International and Security Studies is a research unit of York University dedicated to the study of international peace and security issues. The York Centre for International and Security Studies pursues a triple mandate of research, graduate teaching, and outreach. We undertake critical and theoretically-informed research that is guided by: a) a concern with the ethical-political dimensions of security; and b) the assumption that the pursuit of security, defence, peace, and social justice requires the study of transnational and global forces in relation to local contexts and a range of social groups. The centre, a research unit of York University, works and partners with academics, policymakers, practitioners, and activists across Canada and around the world. The Master of Arts in Security and Defence Management and Policy (MASDMP) is an interdisciplinary academic degree. The programme collaborates closely with RMC'S War Studies programme and draws significantly on material and staff of the Departments of Business Administration, Political Science and Economics, and Military Psychology and Leadership and increasingly on science and engineering subjects. Military and civilian individuals engaged or interested in the security environment, as it is and is emerging, in Canada and internationally, including traditional defence issues, will find the programme relevant and useful. |

Programme in Strategic Studies |
Since the inception of the Programme in Strategic Studies in 1986, and its recognition as the Centre for Defence and Security Studies by the Senate of the University of Manitoba in 1993, the CDSS has encouraged interest and informed debate in the area of Security, Strategic and Defence Studies. The Centre is linked to the Department of Political Studies at the University of Manitoba. The CDSS promotes student interest at the undergraduate and graduate level through a coherent and innovative teaching curriculum. Its research programme undertaken by faculty and research associates is published through its Occasional Paper Series. The CDSS actively involves itself with the community at large through its multi-faceted outreach initiatives. Consequently, the Centre has established an outstanding reputation for its endeavours within the University of Manitoba and the community at large, locally, nationally and internationally. The CDSS undertakes research into all aspects of international security. The Centre has its own specialist research staff who work closely with other researchers at the University of Manitoba. The CDSS also has links with other Centres and Institutes in Canada and around the world. These relationships enable the Centre to pursue an inter-disciplinary approach to questions of international security where appropriate. The Centre is interested in undertaking collaborative inter-disciplinary research in the areas of defence and international security. Research proposals are invited from scholars at other centres/institutes who wish to collaborate with the Centre. |

UNB offers an extensive program in military history and contemporary security studies, including intelligence history. The History Department offers military history at the undergraduate, MA, and PhD levels. Undergraduates may choose from 30 different courses covering periods and subjects from ancient to contemporary military history. Intelligence history courses are available at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Supporting and augmenting the teaching program is the Milton F. Gregg Centre for the Study of War and Society. The Gregg Centre's activities include: research on the modern Canadian Army, terrorism, insurgency and counter-insurgency, intelligence, and critical infrastructure protection; an annual conference on contemporary security issues; publishing The Journal of Conflict Studies, which frequently includes articles on intelligence; publishing volumes in the New Brunswick Military Heritage Project series; consulting on security matters; and running battlefield tours.
